Happy Easter! Helicopter tour of the Swiss Alps and a walk along Lake Geneva
After Luxembourg, we head to Switzerland, get on a helicopter and fly over the Matterhorn.
I took a break from social media during the last three weeks of Lent. Now that it’s Easter Monday, I can resume writing and posting photos of my tour of the most beautiful places in Europe.
Happy Easter, dear friends! Today I have uploaded videos and photos from my tour of Switzerland, which took place in early April. The weather all over Switzerland was warm and sunny. Locals told me that I was fortunate because it usually rains in the springtime in Switzerland. There was still enough snow in the mountains for skiing. But everywhere I went along the lakes, I saw flowers in full bloom.
Helicopter tour of the Matterhorn (from Zermatt)
On such a clear day, I took a helicopter tour with Air Zermatt above the Matterhorn. It was so clear that we could see all the way to France, to the Mont Blanc! Here are a couple of video clips:
From the helicopter, I could see deep crevasses in the glacier.
Below is the peak of the Matterhorn, approaching it from the side.
This helicopter tour is the best I’ve ever taken in my life. I have done helicopter tours in New Zealand and Iceland, but this one was the most memorable.
Zermatt
Here is the town of Zermatt, which has grown from a small village to a major ski destination. I came to Zermatt over ten years ago and I noticed how much it has changed. It is now more posh and draws visitors from Asia and India. From Zermatt you can see the peak of the Matterhorn.
Wengen
Leaving Zermatt, I took a train to Wengen, one of the most popular towns to visit in Switzerland for skiing and views of the famous Eiger, whose north face continues to attract, challenge and kill mountaineers. I love hiking in the mountains, but scrambling with ropes and ice axes isn’t my thing. If you haven’t seen the film, “The Eiger Sanction” with Clint Eastwood, I recommend it highly. As you can see below, people were still skiing in Wengen in early April.
Had enough of the snow?
Let’s go to Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva. Here it feels like spring. I took a long walk along the lake towards the Chateau de Chillon, which you can see in the photo below.
More flowers . . . .
